Bryan Holaday and Johnny Bench

  • 7/02/10: Congratulations to Dallas Knights alum Bryan Holaday for being awarded the 2010 Johnny Bench Award recognizing him as the best catcher in college baseball.

Bryan helped lead TCU (3-2) to a final four finish at the College World Series as they lost to UCLA, falling one win short of the CWS championship round. He became just the 11th player to homer four times during the CWS and recently signed with the Detroit Tigers. Way to go Bryan!

  • 6/26/10 - The Dallas Knights went 1-2 in the Triple Crown 8U State Tournament at Oak Grove Park in Grapevine. The Knights split their Saturday pool doubleheader with a 15-7 win over the Dallas Patriots and a 15-10 loss to Texas Quick. As the #3 seed on Sunday, the Knights offense sputtered in a 7-4 extra-innings loss to the Dbat Mustangs. The Knights are 32-12 on the season.

  • 6/20/10 - The Dallas Knights finished as the runners-up this weekend in the USSSA 8U State Tournament at Big League Dreams in Mansfield. Saturday's pool games were both wins as the Knights downed the North Texas Shockers 20-1 and the Grand Prairie Astros 13-5. As the #1 seed in the 12-team tourney the Knights won their first two bracket games on Sunday against the Colleyville Titans (12-4) and GP Astros (16-0) before a defensive collapse in the championship game allowed 11 unearned runs in a 16-13 loss to the Dbat Mustangs.

Frogs celebrate Holaday's (16) 8th inning homerun

  • 6/14/10 - Congratulations to Dallas Knights alum Bryan Holaday and the rest of the TCU Horned Frogs for earning their first trip to the College World Series by defeating Texas 4-1 yesterday in the rubber game of the Austin Super Regional. The loss ended a great season for DK alums and current Texas Longhorns Cameron Rupp, Stayton Thomas and Brandon Workman.

  • 6/13/10 - The Dallas Knights kicked off the Super Series 8U State Tournament at Bakersfield Park in Flower Mound with a 16-5 win over the Frisco Riders and an 11-0 defeat of the Rockwall Blue Sox. Going into Sunday's bracket play the Knights were the #2 seed in the 13-team tournament but struggled on defense and gave one away 14-13 to the Pearland Posse to finish the tournament at 2-1. The Knights are 27-10 on the season.

A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series and the winner will be announced on July 1st.

  • 6/01/10 - The Dallas Knights took a road trip to Houston over Memorial Day weekend for the 8U Texas Invitational at Baseball USA. The boys played well as they won all four of their pool games against Tyler Baseball (13-7), Corpus Christi SIII Hitmen (10-2), Pearland Posse (10-9) and the Houston Avengers (10-2). In Monday's semi-final the #2 seed Knights were up 6-2 on the #3 seed Posse before falling 9-7 to a late rally to finish in third place. The boys had a great time in their first road trip as they hung out at the hotel pool, played some wild dodgeball on the 7th floor and went on a side trip to the Kemah Boardwalk. Fun, sun and baseball!

BIG CAT'S WALK-OFF WINS CHAMPIONSHIP!

  • 5/23/10 - The Dallas Knights won the OABF Kaufman Lions Club 8U Tournament in dramatic fashion on Sunday as Big Cat ended the championship game with a towering walk-off homerun over the right-centerfield fence to beat the Cedar Park Tigers 7-6. Outstanding team defense kept opponents from putting together any big innings as the Knights went 5-0 in the 13-team tournament with victories over the Cana Tigers (12-0), East Texas Rangers (12-4 & 18-5) and Irving Canes (10-4). Offensively, Freight Train led the weekend's long ball brigade with three homeruns, including a grand slam against the Canes, while Big Cat homered twice and Cadillac & Rhino each left the yard once apiece. Rhino's dinger was the first of his career and was extra sweet as the Rangers intentionally walked the Big Cat to load the bases before Rhino promptly blasted a grand slam!

  • 5/16/10 - The Dallas Knights competed at Little Heroes Ballpark over the weekend in their first Player Pitch tournament and went 2-2 to finish in third place. While the weather was hot & humid on Sunday, the boys got to experience a different kind of baseball and got better with each game.

  • 5/11/10 - The Dallas Knights ballplayers have chosen their 2010 trading pin and here is the winner. Special thanks to Coach Ricky for taking the time to put the artwork together.

Saturday's pool games were both wins (11-3 vs HVA Reds & 16-8 vs Dallas Texans) which earned the Knights the #3 seed out of fifteen teams going into bracket play. On Sunday, the Knights defeated the NTX Storm 16-7 before falling to the NTX Young Guns 19-16. Congratulations to the Young Guns for winning the tournament. The Knights scored 59 runs in their four games as Big Cat led the way by going 13-for-13 with 7 doubles and a home run.

  • 4/27/10 - Congratulations to alum Cameron Rupp for being named the Big XII player of the week for the week of April 19-25. Rupp recorded three doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI while compiling a 1.286 slugging percentage to lead Texas to a 4-0 week. On the year, Rupp is hitting .305 with 33 runs, 10 doubles, seven home runs and a team-high 40 RBI. Way to go Cam!

Down 7-5 in the bottom of the 6th, Freight Train's two-run homer tied the score to force an extra inning and the "California Tiebreaker" was implemented. The Cougars outscored the Knights 7-3 in the extra frame and then won the tournament by beating the Texas Quick 12-6 in the final. The Knights offense was rolling as they scored 65 runs in the four games while totaling 14 doubles, 4 triples and 13 home runs. Highlights included Ace going 12-for-14, Cadillac hitting at least one homerun in each of the four games and an impressive stretch of 4 consecutive home runs by Ace, Smalls, Cadillac & Big Cat.

  • 3/15/10 - Dallas Knights alum and current TCU catcher Bryan Holaday was interviewed this week by Baseball America. Click here to read the BA article. • 3/06/10 - The Knights went 1-1 to start their 2010 season on Saturday with a loss to the Irving Canes in game 1 and a victory over the Colleyville Cougars in game 2. The Knights looked rusty in their first game and it led to defensive mistakes that allowed most of the runs against but the boys rebounded nicely in the back half of the double header to earn a tough 4-3 win. Sunday's bracket play was cancelled due to rain.

  • 3/04/10 - The Dallas Knights will play in their first tournament of 2010 this weekend in the 8U Triple Crown Big Bambino Tournament being played at Oak Grove Park in Grapevine. Saturday doubleheader vs Canes and Cougars. First game is at 8:00am.

Baylor Coach Mitch Thompson and the FR staff provided quality hitting instruction to the Knights and other ballplayers that attended the three-hour clinic. The boys looked sharp in their new Knights hoodies!

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

  • 11/08/09 - The Knights won the 8U Super Series Winter National Qualifier Tournament held over the weekend in Cleburne, TX. To say the boys had an offensive explosion would be an understatement as they lived up to their mantra of "No Yard Too Big!" by belting 17 homeruns out of the ballpark and scoring 68 runs in five games. Big Cat led the fireworks display with 8 bombs as Cadillac, Flash and Freight Train each had three dingers apiece. The Knights went 5-0 to win the tournament and had a blast doing it. Way to go Knights!

  • 11/04/09 - The Dallas Knights 8U completed their fall league season on Wednesday night with an 18-2 win over the 9U Texas Thunder. Playing up in MBI's 9U kid pitch league, the Knights went 10-1 on the season while averaging 14 runs scored to just 4 against as they finished in second place out of ten teams. While the late weeknight games tended to be a little long it was a fun experience for the boys as they got to play some real baseball this fall. Pitching, catching, stealing bases....good times!

  • 10/29/09 - In their first kid pitch league game in two weeks the Knights picked back up where they had left off as they defeated the 9U Comets 13-4. Jordo got the win by going the distance while striking out six.

Good job Knights!

At 21 years and 209 days, Kershaw will be the youngest Game 1 starter for a League Championship Series in MLB history. Good luck Kersh!

  • 9/29/09 - The Knights won 18-5 over the 9U Bulldogz on Tuesday as the pitching staff chipped in their third straight no-hitter thanks in large part to a great 9-6 force out by Jordo on a ball hit to right field. Big Cheese, Spark, Rhino and Mad Dog combined to strike out eight.

  • 9/25/09 - On Friday night the Knights downed the 9U Padres 18-1 in three innings to improve their fall record to 2-0. • 9/24/09 - The Knights defeated the 9U Dodgers on Thursday night by a score of 18-3 behind solid pitching, good base running and timely hitting. The three Knights' pitchers combined on a three-inning no-hitter as Big Cat struck out three, Cadillac struck out three and Peanut struck out two and induced a ground out to end the game. Way to go Knights!

  • 9/21/09 - Our attempt at the first 9U kid pitch game was suspended due to lightning after one completed inning with the Knights ahead of the Rockets 6-0. We would have liked to have played it out but after weeks of rain....we'll take what we can get! Jordo started on the hill for the Knights and struck out three of the four batters he faced. In the bottom of the inning the Knights scored the maximum six runs before the game was halted. This game will be resumed on 9/30/09.

  • 7/24/09 - The Dallas Knights came up a run short in a hard fought 6-5 loss to the Houston Avengers on Friday night to finish in 4th place at the Super Series 7U World Series. From pin trading, opening ceremonies, the skills competitions, being a part of the pre-game ceremonies at the Ranger/Red Sox game and having Tom Grieve say on the air that of the 56 teams in the parade he loved the Dallas Knights because of all of the nicknames.....to spending a full week at the ballpark playing against incredible competition that came from as far away as California, Corpus Christi, El Paso and Houston.....what an absolutely unforgettable experience for our young ballplayers! Congratulations to Knights OF Preston Aymond for being selected to the SSWS 7U All-Tournament Team and to the Corpus Christi Biscuits for bringing home the title.

On Sunday the Knights again beat the Gators (14-1) and then downed the Dbat Mustangs (15-0) to reach the championship game where they fell 10-2 to the Colleyville Cougars. A solid showing all the way around for the Triple Crown State runners-up as they continue to excel on defense and at the plate. No Yard Too Big!

  • 6/22/09 - Good showing by the Knights this past weekend against strong competition in the NEO USSSA 7U tournament @ Fort Worth. • 4/09/09 - Former Dallas Knight Yovani Gallardo earned the Milwaukee Brewers first win of the season last night in a 4-2 win over the SF Giants at AT&T Park. Yovani allowed two runs on six hits while striking out six but it was his bat that made the difference as he blasted a three-run homer in the 5th off of Giants hurler Randy Johnson....the first homerun Johnson has allowed to a pitcher in his 22-year career. A very nice return for the Knights' 2002 Mickey Mantle World Series MVP after not pitching for Milwaukee since September of 2007 due to an ACL injury.

Another former player made his 2009 debut today as Clayton Kershaw (5-5, 4.26 ERA in 2008) toed the rubber for the Los Angeles Dodgers in a day game against the San Diego Padres. Clayton pitched five innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out six but the bullpen couldn't hold his 3-1 lead as they ended up losing 4-3. Kershaw singled and scored the Dodgers first run in the second inning.

    .
